Dr. Johyn was born in the Island of Jamaica W.I. she migrated to the United States of America in 1968 with her husband and their children Debbie and Troy. She is the grandmother of four. In Jamaica she was educated at Hampden High School, and pursued further studies at Duffs Business College and Jamaica Commercial Institute, in Business and Secretarial Science. In Jamaica, Dr. Voni Johyn worked for the Government Social Development Agency and later Things Jamaica in the capacity of Supervisor overseeing the operation of three Arts and Crafts Shops, overseeing banking affairs and staff supervision. Upon her arrival in the United State she worked for New York State Department of Insurance for sixteen years in the capacities of Reinsurance Claims Examiner and as the Liaison between the New York State Department of Insurance and all other states. After many years in the business industry, Dr. Johyn decided to pursue her first love, which is religion. Dr. Johyn attended New York Theological Seminary and followed with many other accredited religious institutions.
Eighteen years ago, Dr. Johyn founded Isaiah’s Temple of Mt Hope Spiritual Baptist Church in Brooklyn. She is the Senior Pastor, and Executive Director of Community out-reach programs. Isaiah’s Temple provides services to low income and homeless individuals such as distributing hot meals from their soup kitchen and dry foods from their pantry program twice per week. Additionally, Dr. Johyn founded the Isaiah’s Crystal Light House an organization that provides transitional and supportive housing to young adult women and their infants as they age out of the foster care system. She believes the development and empowerment of youths is of great importance to ensure them a positive place in society.
Dr. Voni Johyn is a well-recognized motivational speaker; she has traveled to places such as Russia, Korea, Rome, Israel, and Africa to speak at various American Clergy Leadership Conferences and The United Federation of Churches. Dr. Johyn is Co-convener of this organization. She believes in the restoration of family values and works diligently to counsel young mothers, HIV victims, and displaced individuals. She believes strongly in education and encourages all individuals to seek higher education. Dr. Johyn is a graduate of New York City Technical College with a degree in Business Management and Sales, a B.S. from Nyack College in Organizational Management, Bth, M.Div from Mount Olive Theological Seminary and a PhD in Philosophy from International Theological Seminary.
